Frequently Asked Questions

These are some of our frequently asked questions. If you have a question that is not on here, feel free to contact us using the form below.

General Questions

– Yes. No experience is necessary and you do not need to be in a certain shape to take part in our classes. There are new beginners joining everyday and many ask themselves the same question: “Why didn’t I join this earlier?!”. If you have never done any form of exercise or have health concerns, we highly recommend to consult your physician prior to taking part in any physical activity.

For Capoeira, wear comfortable and breathable WHITE pants (no shorts or jeans please) and t-shirt / top of any color.
If you do not have white pants, we can loan you a clean pair for $5.

It’s important you arrive early (minimum 15 minutes) to familiarize yourself with our Academy and instructors and fill out a waiver form. You may also want to try following along one of our training videos here to get bit of a head start on your first class.

Yes, but most are optional. Once you first join, a uniform must be purchased and must be worn for ALL classes. Besides that, we host events in which we encourage all members to participate, but it’s optional. Such events include parties, competitions, and belt ceremonies.

Yes. Every year we host our Annual Batizado in which students can receive their first belt and progress through our belt system. Students will be tested for their skills and attendance.

No. Although a partner is not necessary, we highly recommend having a friend join with you as this has been proven to help keep both of you motivated and focused on achieving your goal (fitness and/or skill level).

No. We know things can come up, but for you first day you are required to arrive a minimum of 15 minutes PRIOR to your class in order to fill out our waiver form, change, meet the instructor and go over some of your basics before the class starts. Latecomers on their first day will not be permitted to join.
In future classes, if you are late, you must greet the instructor and join the class by doing  “SALVE” at the back of the class prior to joining. Your instructor will walk you through the process if its needed.

Adult Questions

Our Adult Classes range from 45-90 Minutes. Please refer to our schedule for each class time.

Our Beginner Intro runs about every 2 months. For upcoming dates, click here. When no Intros are running, we have ongoing open registration where new members can join.

If you have no experience and we have an Intro Course running, we recommend you join with that. If you prefer to join one of our ongoing mixed-level groups you may also do that. You should watch some of our training videos here to prepare for your first class.

Although all our classes are beginner-friendly, we highly recommend you watch some of our training videos here to prepare in advance.
For your first class, the instructor will greet you and show you some basic moves prior to the start of class. The instructor will then do a group warm-up & stretch and proceed to help you with some basic moves and/or modified exercises that will allow you to follow along with the rest of the class.

Every class will be a little different and everyone learns at a different pace, so patience is essential. Some people may have a steep learning curve, but after about 1 month of consistent training, you will start to get the hang of things.

Kids Questions

– In our Kids Capoeira classes we accept children from ages 6-12. In Minis Capoeira, 3-5.

– Kids Capoeira is a 60 minute class where children will progress through all the aspects of Capoeira (martial-art, dance, acrobatics, music, language and more). The class consists of a warm-up, basic movement recaps, sequence training, partner work (currently on hold due to Covid), and will sometimes end with educational games to help them further develop certain skills. Strengthening exercises, stretches, music and singing is also incorporated into class. All classes are held in a safe and friendly environment with a healthy mix of fun/games & hard work.

– For Capoeira, wear comfortable and breathable WHITE pants (no shorts or jeans please) and t-shirt / top of any color.
If you do not have white pants, we can loan you a clean pair for $5.

– Being that it’s their first time, it’s important you arrive early (minimum 15 minutes) to allow them time to get comfortable with our Academy and instructors. Often when kids arrive late their first day it sets them back for the rest of the class.
You may also want to try following along one of our training videos here to give them a bit of a head start on their first class.

Yes, but it is important you speak to us about this and other issues so we can better understand how to help your child overcome them. We also periodically host self-defense classes where we focus on how to deal with bullying and build confidence.

– No. Your child must have turned 6 to join the older kids group (Kids Capoeira, ages 6-12).
