Explosive kicks. Gravity-defying backflips. Raucous beats. Capoeira matches act as a colourful form of cultural expression in addition to a powerful form of self-defence.
In our Beginner Intro Course, you will learn the basics of Capoeira including martial arts, basic acrobatics, dance moves, as well as musical elements. Everything you need to get moving into a more advanced level… or just enough to follow along in the class, you will get in the Intro. How far you go is completely up to you. You can progress to the intermediate/advanced classes or just follow along for the workout and great energy you’ll feel.
After some months of training, students begin in the more tricky motions and the holistic knowledge necessary to advance in Capoeira’s belt system, such as how to predict gravity’s current strength before executing a backflip, timing and distance for attacks and how to escape from one’s attack. Whether you choose to continue and progress through the belt system, or train for fitness, one thing is for sure: Capoeira is a whole-body workout that strengthens your core muscles, improves flexibility and LIVENS up your day. The classes also engage student’s creative instincts as they sing, dance, and learn to play instruments.
– Yes. No experience is necessary and you do not need to be in a certain shape to take part in our classes. There are new beginners joining everyday and many ask themselves the same question: “Why didn’t I join this earlier?!”. If you have never done any form of exercise or have health concerns, we highly recommend to consult your physician prior to taking part in any physical activity.
For Capoeira, wear comfortable and breathable pants (no shorts or jeans please) and t-shirt / top of any color.
It’s important you arrive early (minimum 15 minutes) to familiarize yourself with our Academy and instructors and fill out a waiver form. You may also want to try following along one of our videos here to get bit of a head start on your first class.
The INTRO allows you access only to the 8 sessions (Tuesdays and Thursdays 7-8pm).

Yes. Every year we host our Annual Batizado in which students can receive their first belt and progress through our belt system. Students will be tested for their skills and attendance.
No. Although a partner is not necessary, we highly recommend having a friend join with you as this has been proven to help keep both of you motivated and focused on achieving your goal (fitness and/or skill level).
Although all our classes are beginner-friendly, we highly recommend you watch some of our training videos here to prepare in advance.
For your first class, the instructor will greet you and show you some basic moves prior to the start of class. The instructor will then do a group warm-up & stretch and proceed to help you with some basic moves and/or modified exercises that will allow you to follow along with the rest of the class.
Every class will be a little different and everyone learns at a different pace, so patience is essential. Some people may have a steep learning curve, but after about 1 month of consistent training, you will start to get the hang of things.
– We recommend you attend all 8 sessions in the Course, however, that is up to you. You can make up a maximum of 1 missed classes in one of our beginner classes.
– No. Once you register you have reserved your spot in the course. Since the course usually fills up, by registering you have taken the spot of another potential student, therefore we cannot transfer you to another session or offer refunds. You are welcome to transfer your spot to a friend or family member.
We are Toronto’s 8x Award-winning Capoeira Academy and only full-time Capoeira school in the city. We offer multiple classes per day, 6 days per week. Our Academy has been operating since May 2005 and is fully equipped with mats, weights, Capoeira and Brazilian musical instruments, change rooms and shower, lounge area, and more.
All classes are beginner-friendly, however, we do offer beginner-only classes and courses. Memberships are based on monthly plans which vary from 1-12 months.
