Capoeira also encourages creativity, self-expression, and teamwork, making it an excellent way for kids to develop important social skills.

– In our Kids Capoeira classes we accept children from ages 7-12. In Minis Capoeira, 3-6.
– Kids Capoeira is a 60 minute class where children will progress through all the aspects of Capoeira (martial-art, dance, acrobatics, music, language and more). The class consists of a warm-up, basic movement recaps, sequence training, partner work (currently on hold due to Covid), and will sometimes end with educational games to help them further develop certain skills. Strengthening exercises, stretches, music and singing is also incorporated into class. All classes are held in a safe and friendly environment with a healthy mix of fun/games & hard work.
For Capoeira, wear comfortable and breathable pants (no shorts or jeans please) and t-shirt / top of any color.
– Being that it’s their first time, it’s important you arrive early (minimum 15 minutes) to allow them time to get comfortable with our Academy and instructors. Often when kids arrive late their first day it sets them back for the rest of the class.
You may also want to try following along one of our videos here to give them a bit of a head start on their first class.
Yes, but most are optional. Once you first join, a uniform must be purchased and must be worn for ALL classes. Besides that, we host events in which we encourage all members to participate, but it’s optional. Such events include parties, camps, sleep-overs, movie nights, competitions, and belt ceremonies.
Yes. Every year we host our Annual Batizado in which students can receive their first belt and progress through our belt system. Students will be evaluated for their skills, attendance and focus levels. Occasionally, other aspects will be considered such as school grades and behaviour at home.
Yes, but it is important you speak to us about this and other issues so we can better understand how to help your child overcome them. We also periodically host self-defense classes where we focus on how to deal with bullying and build confidence.
– No. Your child must have turned 7 to join the older kids group (Kids Capoeira, ages 7-12).
Capoeira is generally safe for kids as long as it is practiced in a controlled and supervised environment with qualified instructors. However, like any physical activity, there is a risk of injury, so it is important for kids to follow safety guidelines and rules.
The frequency of capoeira practice for kids depends on the child’s age, physical ability, and goals. For younger kids, one or two classes per week may be sufficient. As children get older and their skills and endurance improve, they may be able to handle more frequent practice. It is important to listen to your child’s needs and limits and not push them too hard. With that said, we have kids who attend once per week and others who attend 6 days per week.
Yes, kids can participate in capoeira tournaments and performances, but it is important for them to be ready and prepared. This may require additional training and practice, and the child should be comfortable and confident in their abilities. We host an Annual Tournament called Jogo de Bamba. Capoeira provides numerous physical and mental benefits for kids. Physically, it helps improve strength, coordination, balance, and endurance. Mentally, it promotes focus, discipline, and confidence. Capoeira can also be a great way for kids to relieve stress and have fun.
Capoeira is similar to other martial arts in that it involves physical training and discipline, but it also incorporates elements of music, dance, and acrobatics. This makes it a unique and enjoyable activity for kids. Like any martial art, capoeira can help improve physical fitness and coordination and promote mental discipline, but it may be more suitable for some kids than others depending on their interests and goals.
As a parent, it is important to choose a reputable school or instructor for your child’s capoeira training and to make sure the environment is safe and appropriate. You should also discuss your child’s goals and progress with the instructor and be supportive of their interests. It is also a good idea to encourage your child to stay hydrated and stretch before and after class to help prevent injuries.
